I have to start off by saying this....I need to read more often!
I read this book 2 years ago when it made its debut. It is an easy read but I sure do recommend it to anyone that cares to listen. I, myself was and am a Selenalover. How could you not be? I am a gal from Texas, and that might tell you everything about where I stand when it comes to Selena. When I say this was an easy read, its 100% literal. It is as if Chris(Selena's widower) was talking to you and you cant help but to remain engaged in conversation with this book. So I can believe it if most zoomed through this book and finished it within the hour. This book was also translated into Spanish for Spanish Readers.

I don't wanna "Spoiler Alert" it for ya but I will mention the events I do remember from this book of 2 years ago and I hope you get a chance to read it, It's an intriguing and sincere read.
Chris begins by talking about how he was not interested in Selena right away, or atleast not in a dating kinda way. He didn't know too much about Selena y los Dinos but he did know of them. He was guitarist for another popular tejano singer/band at the time that he heard of this new group with a young girl named Selena. Eventually he was offered to join the group by A.B (Selena's brother and bassist) and took the offer.
He recalls a trip back from Mexico being their first major Encounter of Love. Selena was Excited about the gigs they had done and the amazing trip they just had to Mexico and was talking to Chris about it. This is where you begin to realize, She's just a Girl! She also wants Love and Attention and to be flirtatious, I'm sure you can relate. She grabs his hand as the plane lands and they have now realized they both have the HOTS for each other!
As in the movie, they do elope because of Selena's father's strict ways. Chris talks about the issues they had as a married couple and mentions that DIVORCE was an option they both wanted to explore. The family knew this for the most part, and advised them to be sure that this is what they really wanted and they have their full support on whatever decision they make. Chris mentions a time in Big Bertha when he and Selena were having a discussion. Selena was so upset at some point that she went forward as to punch him and he just simply ducked out of her way. She tripped with all the force she had gathered and fell right to the ground. The driver walked in at that moment and just saw her on the ground and they both just stared back at him. Selena to this point seemed like all of us women, men just cant seem to read us right...EVER. So it seemed as if she picked on arguments often. (I was in a serious relationship at the time and she reminded me a lot of myself.)
The last pages are about Selena's death. Yolanda(Selena's murderer) had been hiding paperwork and was not being honest about missing money, so Chris told Selena several times to avoid Yolanda and to just leave it alone. He did not know about Selena meeting with Yolanda that day because Selena knew he wouldn't approve of it. Selena met with Yolanda and that is where she was killed; at the motel Yolanda was using.
One of the moments that sticks to me like glue, is when Chris opens up about coping with Selena's death and the days that followed. He had gone into his room and missed her so much that he started poking holes through the plastic bag carrying Selena's clothing from the day she had been killed. He said it all still smelled of her and it comforted him for a long time. He would cry and hug it daily and no one knew he would do this, Each time he would poke a new hole in the bag.
Chris Perez has a FB Page and of course I do follow. He found love after Selena and he is also a father. He is divorced and living a musical life. He is not a depressed guy nor is he out there looking for sympathy and he isn't bringing her name up any chance he can. He is just a normal guy living in San Antonio. This book is a MUST-READ.
