So we all know that when anyone speaks the name El Salvador...you think PUPUSAS. We ALL do it. I can also admit to not knowin' all the delicious dishes that this country is known for, when I should know most of them. I do keep it simple all the time when ordering at a Salvadorean restaurant. For the most part I will say, "3 pupusas,(you never know what you gone' get) 2 frijol con queso(I always get corrected, its frijol not frijoles con queso)" and the last one I like to mix it up and maybe say just 'queso' or 'queso con loroco'. Now here it goes, "What would you like to drink?" That's where Ensalada comes into play. I challenge you to try this beverage/salad while you wait on your main entree the next time you visit your favorite pupusa place. Most places will make theirs identical to the the next and it's always a crowd pleaser. I'm not sure what all its components are but I can take an educated guess on that, don't mind if I do. So... there might be pineapple juice as the foundational flavor, topped off with apple chunks, pineapple chunks and mango chunks. YUMM! They will always give you a spoon with this beverage and of course a straw too. It's all up to you how you tackle it though. Believe me, you will crave this Every Time! There's just somethin' about a fresh fruit beverage as you wait on pupusas and curtido that just drives you Nuts.
The next time you visit a Salvadorean restaurant and they ask, "What would you like to drink?" Make sure you say, "Una Ensalada para mi por favor." Buen Provecho mi Gente!
