YaI will not lie. You guys, I used to stalk Dario. Dario came into my life when I watched the 2002 KoreaJapan World Cup. I was... Intrigued to say the least. Here was this curly haired blondie guy, and immediately everything about him let me know who he was, He was the SUPERSTAR. He played for the Uruguayan national soccer team and yup, he had been 'it' for them. This is around the time I really started trying to understand most sports, and this guy just had a passion, a passion for the game along with a little dirty play. I mean, who doesn't right? He was the epitome of a leader on the field, someone who was living what seemed to be his final glory days on an international stage. I could not keep my eyes off him... and his team. They were GOOD! Well, Brazil won that mundial in case you forgot. Once the cup was over and I had caught any and every Dario cameo, I wondered what this guy would do since his career could be coming to an end but I wasn't so into soccer and I let it go. As with all good things, I let him go for a minute as well (a couple years), and one day I just thought of him again, just like that! I looked him up and I was left speechless you guys. Whenever I share Dario's story, and it's been with a select few, its simply because of the severity, the lesson to be received, I mean it's a serious matter. I just learned that a few months prior to my search, Dario had been in a terrible car accident. I know! He was well and alive but his life was now... different. My first thoughts honestly were to search a little more regarding his soccer career up into that point, and then I would wonder if he'd have a quick recovery and get back on track?! I kept reading and I mean, the insanity! I read that he had been under the influence of alcohol and that in all reality, he was a drunkard. I thought, man, I hope he changes his ways because this could've ended his career and I was so glad no one else was critically injured in this isolated incident. He totally caused the accident, ramming his pick up into a post while intoxicated. Ladies and gents, it doesn't end just there though. Unbenonced to him; he was unconscience following the event, the only solution aside from other minor injury was to amputate his leg. Dario's leg needed to be partially amputated and it was. I know! That's hard enough, and then to remember that this is your livelihood as well. I just could not make sense of it, but I remember thinking that it served a purpose, a bittersweet purpose. Mixed emotions right? If you only saw what I observed in those games, I saw a country's soccer hero, a legend in his country! All because this guy had curly blonde hair, I was blessed with the awareness of this life story and his life lessons. I love this guy. Dario had been depressed for a second and then he was ready for the next chapter of his life. I checked on him a couple months later and his new goal (no pun intended) at that time was to make the Olympics and play some more there. He acknowledged the lemons he was handed and made something resembling lemonade with them. He's human y'all, hes an overcomer, sure he has a handicap but there was no backing off that challenge. Think about it. This huge professional soccer player guy made a bad call and took a drive when he shoulda just not and there's no tellin how often he made that choice but this one particular night, it got real. A price he paid in his own skin, that one thing that you use everyday, that one body part that made him a successful professional soccer player was now gone. If you're askin me, I know Gods not done with him. What a weapon he is now even if it has nothing to do with a soccer field. I love this story so much and like anyone that's going through something similar or has in the past, you're definitely gonna show the world that those events or those missing limbs do not define you, they are not you and your story will impact others. Look, there's my Dario! Yahoo hooked a sista up!
